THE CHARLES RIVER CONSERVANCY AND THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND RECREATION PRESENT:
THE SUNDAY PARKLAND GAMES

The 2011 Sunday Parkland Games were a huge success! Thank you to all who participated. We are planning and getting ready for the summer of 2012!
WHAT:
Each summer the Charles River Conservancy, together with the Department of Conservation and Recreation, hosts free games and athletic activities for all ages and ability levels. The Sunday Parkland Games gives both children and adults the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Parklands, while enjoying a rich array of fun and healthy activities including badminton, bocce, croquet, Frisbee®, horseshoes, hula hoops, lawn toss, and paddleball, along with team activities such as potato sack races and tug-o-war. This year we also hope to install a Ga-ga pit and tight rope for those who are looking to try something new. We also offer free yoga classes under the shade of the sycamores from 4-5PM that are open to the public. The program allows people of all ages to utilize the available natural, open spaces found in urban areas. To produce the Sunday Parkland Games the CRC contracts with local games company Knucklebones to provide equipment. We would like to thank Karma Yoga for donating their time and yoga instructors.
WHY:
The Sunday Parkland Games has been an initiative of the Charles River Conservancy to bring families to the Parklands and offer fun and athletic activities- free of charge- on Sunday afternoons since 2009. The program is a component of our "Active Parklands Initiative" that encourages physical activity, especially for children and families. We are focused on these programs to compensate for the lack of physical activities easily accessible and affordable to urban residents.
All are welcome to pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and enjoy a day outdoors on the banks of the Charles!
WHEN:
This summer the games will run for sixteen weeks from June 17th through September 30th. All activities will be offered on Sunday afternoons from 2-5PM when the adjacent Memorial Drive is closed to cars, thus creating a safer and more accessible playing space. All ages are welcome to come play or just hang out along the Charles-no registration is required!
The 2012 Sunday Parkland Games will be located by the Weeks Footbridge.
All activities are totally free of charge and the program does not require registration - anyone can attend, and all are welcome to participate.
